Letter from Leigh Re: Dr Johnathan Chavey's response to conference announcement
From:Leigh A. Bright
As some of you may or may not know - I am calling parents off of the 1982 Straight list. And when I contact them, I tell them about the conference, the websites - and my efforts to compile testimony. So I called Anna Caraveli tonight and spoke with her briefly. She told me she was having dinner and to call back later. So I waited an hour and called back. Mr. Jonathan Chaves, her husband or partner (also on the list) answered that time. I identified myself, said I had been speaking with Anna, and asked if she was available. That's when Mr. Chaves revealed that he was cut from the same cloth as our friend, Mr. Cavey. Mr Chaves let me know that they do not support our cause and began to spew his hostility at me. I interrupted him and asked, "So, then, you are saying that you support child abuse?" to which he began to spew at me again. But I managed to testify to him what Miller Newton did to me. Chaves didn't care, obviously, because he sneered, "And how did you treat your parents before the program?" I was flabbergasted at the question (I never assaulted my parents) and he managed to spew some more brainwashed crap before I was able to reiterate that no matter what, Newton, an adult, didn't have a right to assault me, a child. But Chaves came back at me with, "You got what you deserved, Hon!" Then he hung up on me.
